What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient science and philosophy of life, a path towards poses_outline
self-realisation prescribed by
the great sages of yore. In his Yoga Sutras 1.2 & 1.3 Patanjali Maharishi defines:

“Yoga is the control of the thought-waves of the mind”

and that once we have achieved that

“Then man abides in his own true nature”.

Yoga helps us understand our inner strengths and empowers us to find balance, serenity and calmness amidst any stressful situation in our daily life.

Hatha Yoga

The practice of Hatha Yoga sort of awakens the intelligence of our body first and then gently guides us from understanding the gross, physical aspects of life towards grasping the more subtle realities that lie beyond.

By definition Hatha Yoga is a “Sarvanga Sadhana”, a balanced practice in which all parts of the body are exercised.  We believe that this “Balance” really is of the essence and, therefore, that it should be maintained in each Asana, in each class  sequence and eventually reflect also in the lifestyle of the practitioner, on the physical as well as the mental plane.

Each Hatha Yoga class comprises the following segments:

  • Breathing exercises (Pranayama)
  • Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar)
  • Posture practice (Asanas)
  • Relaxation (Savasana)

Our classes are small and thus we are able to continuously guide the students in terms of
appropriate and safe Asana variations at each stage of their practice.

Once the foundation is set, students are encouraged to start their own home practice as well.
